Mindy drove to Sand Springs and parked her car on Main Street.
She saw the “212” on the building directly in front of her, so she knew she was in the right place.
“I’m so nervous!” she thought. “What is she going to think of me?” “I don’t know if I can talk about this… and to a complete stranger!”
“I can’t,” she hesitated, clutching the gear shift nervously. “I’m not strong enough. I just can’t share my concerns with her.” Terrified that she’d completely lose it, she considered driving away.
Then, she paused –
All the pain of the past few months started bubbling to the surface – pain that had started to affect her relationships, her job, and even her health. Once again, the exhaustion and frustration that had prompted her to spend the past two weeks searching for the right therapist – someone who could really understand and help – washed over her.
The thought of spending even one more day in this toxic emotional space gave her the energy she needed to get out of the car.
She walked in the front door, up the stairs to the second floor, and down the hall to 207. Moments later at almost 2:00 p.m, I opened the door to the waiting area – and Mindy’s future.
I smiled reassuringly at her and welcomed Mindy inside.
The room felt warm and inviting. Her shoulders relaxed, she took a deep breath, and sank into a relaxed posture on the comfortable sofa.
“This is it. I’m here.”
Mindy finally felt relaxed enough to begin the session.
I felt good – really good – to share the thoughts I’ve been holding onto for so long.
Dawn helped me feel safe, seen, and heard.
About Dawn
Welcome. I’m Dawn Bodi, LPC, and I’m hopefully the therapist you’ve been searching for.
Following my passion for human behavior, I pursued my master’s degree in Human Relations from the University of Oklahoma. With each class I attended, I knew I was in the right place (ok, not so much in Statistics class). Studying for this career was way more fun than it was supposed to be, so I continued my studies to become a Licensed Professional Counselor.
Did I mention I was a mother of two toddlers during this time? Sometimes, they made the degree program feel like a breeze compared to parenting.
After my internship in a community health agency, I positioned myself in the Tulsa school system with kids ranging from 5 – 17. I spent a lot of time helping the families of these kiddos improve their relationships and strengthen bonds.
In 2012, I moved my practice to the Mannford School district and continued working with kids, some adults, and their families.
It’s important to me to stay up to date on the latest research, training, and methods of psychotherapy. In fact, I exceed the continuing education credits required for licensure most years – because I enjoy learning.
In 2019, I become trained in EMDR with adults. This expertise has significantly changed my practice and certainly made me a better therapist. I acquired additional training in EMDR that taught me how to help teens. I want to bring the best to the kids I see.
My goal is to get you where you want to be.
I’ll honor your comfort level of sharing, and I’ll challenge you to learn more about yourself.
If I sound like a good fit for you, call me today at (918) 810-2588. I’ve saved a parking spot just for you!
